167,558. Gordelier, F. H. May 7, 1920. Sound magnifying and directing appliances applied to telephone receivers. Fig. 3 shows a pedestal telephone set in which the received speech is amplified by a horn E, F connected through a sound-box A to the earpiece of the telephone receiver X. The part F of the horn is mounted on a screwed spindle f and is adjustable relatively to the part E. Fig. 5 shows an alternative form of compound horn, and Fig. 8 is a cubical form on which the curvature of the reflecting plate M is adjusted by a screw N. Other modified forms of trumpet are described. A microphone may be interposed between the end of the tube A and the horn; or a needle, spring, or other device, actuated by the vibrations of the receiver diaphragm, may be arranged to operate a bell or other audible alarm.
