Closure members; leakage, preventing. - A packing for a valve spindle or valve member comprises a cup-like member of flexible material housed in a metallic chamber and having inturned edges adapted to be pressed by fluid pressure against the spindle or the outside of a cylindrical seat. In the form shown, the cup b of dermatine is house in a member d screwed to the valve member 4 and has a lip b<1> adapted to engage the annular seat e. The spindle packing a is enclosed in a chamber c and has two lips 11, 12, one engaging the spindle and the other an annular projection 13 on the casing. The valvemember packing may be similar in construction to the spindle packing. The projection 13 may be formed in a member adapted to be secured in an ordinary stuffing box. The bore through the lips may be made conical so as to cause the lips to firmly engage the spindle or annular projection.
