Abstract

167,042. Darby, S. C. June 7, 1920. Frames, adjustable in width.-An agricultural tractor is provided with means for extending the axles on one or both sides so that the wheels may run on those parts of the land that will become stetch furrows. The front axle b, Fig. 1, is fitted with a forked extension b<1> fixed to the axle, and stiffened by stays f, f<1> connected to a vertical part f<2>. The steering-connection g is also lengthened. To the rear of the tractor is fixed a draw-bar h which carries a bearing e<2> for the extension of the driving-axle e, the bar h being connected to the main frame and front axle by tierods h<3>, h<2>. A brake drum e<3> is provided which serves to connect the extension e<1> to the axle e, and is used for turning at headlands. In a modification in which the tractor is driven by chain gearing from a countershaft, the rear axle structure comprises means for supporting the dead axle and the gearing on the extended side.
