Abstract

Valves.-In engines in which two or more working pistons are secured to a single pump piston, charges are compressed by the bottom face of the pump piston, which carries an extension reciprocating in a tubular guide. The engine shown in Fig. 4 comprises a pair of pistons secured to a pump piston 1 and reciprocating in cylinders having a common combustion space. A piston valve 22 controls the admission and delivery ports of the annular pump space beneath the piston 1. A modified construction of engine is described in which the distributing-valve is dispensed with. Specification 119,414 is referred to.
