Abstract

Rotatinq to ensure even wear.-In valve-mechanism for internal-combustion engines of the type in which a lift-valve c is held to its seat by a spring d which abuts against an anti-friction bearing on the valvestem, and the valve-gear rotates the valve as it lifts, the gear for lifting the valve is arranged to effect direct and positive rotation. As shown, the valve is actuated by a cam D, which is in line with the valve-axis but extends to one side of the tappet head m, and engages projections r so as to rotate the tappet-rod. The tappet-rod has an adjustable head p with a transverse groove s engaging a tongue on the valve stem.
