Abstract

164,725. Soc. d'Electro-Chimie et d'Electro-Metallurgie. June 9, 1920, [Convention date]. Iron, depositing.-An electrolytic contains an iron salt, aluminium chloride, and hydrochloric iron chloride solution. Hydrochloric acid may be added to acid. The aluminium chloride may be produced by dissolving the metal in iron chloride solution. The hydrochloric acid is added either during or before electrolysis, to re-dissolve precipitated alumina or to prevent its precipitation. A suitable solution contains 200-250 gr. of iron and 5-15 gr. of aluminium per litre. Current densities of 5-40 amperes per sq. dcm. may be used, and the temperature may be 75-80‹ C.
