Abstract

163,318. Burgess Battery Co., (Assignees of Schulte, W. B.). May 15, 1920, [Convention date]. Electrodes. - A carbon electrode with its manganese depolarizer 3 is surrounded with a paper, cheesecloth, or other porous envelope 4 which is fixed to the electrode by an adhesive such as one per cent solution of arrowroot in boiling water. The electrode is dipped in the adhesive and then wrapped with the envelope, the ends of which are turned down to cover the ends of the depolarizer block. The lower end 6 of the electrode may be dipped in paraffin. The electrode when dry is placed in a zinc container with an intervening gelatinizable electrolyte, the cell being sealed with pitch &c. Specification 163,317 is referred to. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), states that the adhesive may be mixed with the depolarizer before the moulding process and that the upper portion of the envelope may be cut to enable it to be folded and brought into contact with the carbon rod 1 as shown at 7. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
