Abstract

162,520. Radcliffe, W., Radcliffe, S., and Radcliffe, G. April 10, 1920. Driving-ropes.-A cotton driving-rope is formed of such a number of strands, preferably wire, that, when twisted, the yarn or threads comprising the strands become approximately longitudinal on the surface and the length of each strand on the surface is less than the length of the individual fibres, i.e. each fibre is gripped at least once between its own strand and the upper or lower strands next to itself. Figs. 1 and 2 show a rope of nine strands a, in which the length between band c on the surface is less than the length of an individual cotton fibre.
