Corrosion, preventing.-Feed-water is freed from absorbed oxygen, which causes corrosion in the boiler, by bringing the water into intimate contact with an inert gas, such as nitrogen. Feed-water is passed downwardly through a vessel a, and nitrogen is blown upwardly through the water from pipe d. The mixed oxygen and nitrogen passing off at the top of the vessel is led through a chamber g containing hot copper chips, the separated nitrogen being led back to the blower c.
