Abstract
161,116. Brown, D. A. Aug. 20, 1920. Removing sludge from generators; solid supply to liquid.-The water that serves to control the supply of carbide to a carbide-to-water acetylene generator is delivered through a pipe 2 to the generating-chamber 1 for the purpose of stirring- up and discharging the sludge, which with the excess of water escapes through a valveless overflow 18 located near the upper end of the generating-chamber. The water is supplied from a flushing-cistern 4 in which is a float 17 connected through ratchet-gearing with the carbidefeeding worm 10; or the latter may be actuated by a water motor. The pipe 2 is provided with a siphon head 5 for the separation of air which escapes through a vent 6.
