Abstract

Window holders for sliding sashes; sashes balanced one against another; sashes balanced by weighted racks; sashes removable from frame.- In sliding window-sashes balanced by racks and pinions one against another or by weighted racks, a second pinion 32 co-axial and rigid with the balancing-pinion 28 is adapted to be engaged by a spring-pressed pawl 33 to hold the window in any position. The pawls are withdrawn from engagement with the pinions by cords &c. 35 and handles 36 sliding in the frame. The racks are formed on plates fixed to the sashes and sliding in grooves 24, in the frama when the sashes are balanced one against another. When balanced by a weighted rack, the rack on the sash is fixed on the edge thereof. The lower portion of the inside bead is hinged to allow the inner sash to be removed, and is secured by a sliding bolt. The parting-bead may be removable to allow removal of the outer sash.
