Disk, wheel, and roller apparatus.-A machine for grinding cylindrical bars &c. comprises two opposed cupshaped grinding - wheels n mounted to rotate on axes perpendicular to the axes of the work h and to be revolved around the work as this is fed axially, with or without rotation, through the machine. The grinding- wheels are carried by spindles m screwed into sleeves l carried in ball bearings by beams f; the beams are secured at their ends to hollow mandrels g, supported in bearings a, b, and adapted to be rotated by means of a pulley i. Each sleeve l carries a bevel-wheel p in gear with a bevel-wheel s carried by a shaft t, mounted in ball bearings u in a bracket v, and having theron a pinion w in gear with a stationary gear-wheel z; rotation of the beams &c. causes rotation of the grinding- wheels. The grinding-wheels may be adjusted towards or away from the work by turning the spindles m in the sleeves l, the spindles being secured in the adjusted position by lock-nuts r. In order to grind parallel flat faces on the work, this is passed without rotation through the machine and the gear wheel z is rotated, the beams f being held stationary. The toothed gear drive may be replaced by a bolt drive.
