Abstract

1530259 Burners; water heaters SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 20 Oct 1975 [22 Oct 1974] 45618/74 Headings F4T and F4A A burner for a central heating boiler comprises an air chamber 1 and a coaxial flame chamber 2, the chambers being connected by a smaller diameter throat 3, a fuel spray nozzle 4, chamber 2 widening towards its outlet and having circumferential rows of openings 6, 7, 8, therein for the supply of air, and a swirler 9 between the chambers. Primary air is supplied to chamber 2 from wind box 10 through apertures 13, secondary air is supplied through swirler 9, and tertiary air is supplied through openings 6, 7, 8. Air is supplied to the wind box through a tangential supply 11, a clockwise air swirl is produced by openings 15 in rows 6, 7, and an anticlockwise air swirl is produced by openings 17 in row 8. Openings 15, 17, are provided in notches 14, 16, respectively, whose angles of direction are substantially 40 and 70 degrees. Certain of the rows may not have openings, or only some of the notches in a row may have openings. The flame chamber may have two or more parallel sections, Fig. 4 (not shown). Water heater.-The burner is mounted in a central heating boiler, Fig. 1, wherein the furnace chamber 18 is connected to a gas channel 21 provided with heat-transfer-increasing- projections 24, a water jacket 23 coaxially surrounding channel 21.
