Abstract

1528749 Pipe couplings MANNIN ENG Ltd 29 Sept 1975 [28 Dec 1974] 55949/74 Heading F2G A coupling for a pipe 15 to a body 13 comprises a hollow screw threaded stud 10 to screw into a tapped bore 12 in the body 13, and surrounding the pipe 15, the stud 10 having a counterbore 16 containing a split ring 18 held in place by a metallic seal carrier 22 having a chamfered end 21 to enable force fitting of the carrier behind a lip 20 on the counterbore 16, a non-split plastics sealing member 23 being carried by a tip and rebate formation 27 at the other end of the carrier 22, the sealing member 23 being tapered at 23a for engagement with a tapered seating 24 in the body 13, the arrangement being such that on tightening of the stud 10 the sealing member 23 is pressed against the pipe 15 to provide a seal and the split ring 18 acts as a pipe gripping member. In alternative embodiments the end 21 of the carrier 22 may be longitudinally slit to facilitate fitting of the carrier with the lip 20, and the ring 18 may be replaced by a split collar performing the same pipe gripping function in use.
