Abstract

1519909 Ice making apparatus C BEUSCH 10 Dec 1976 [16 Jan 1976] 51771/76 Heading F4H An ice-making apparatus comprises an auger 1 mounted within a cooling jacket 2 through which coolant from a refrigerator passes, the upper end of the chamber 3 therebetween being provided with a plate 5 formed with tapering openings 7 for the compression of the ice conveyed upwardly by the auger. The auger is formed with a central longitudinal bore 10 and with transverse bores 8, 12 connecting the bore 10 to the chamber 3. A feed water supply pipe 22 leads to the upper end of the bore 10, where there is an air gap 15, and is provided with a float valve 20 controlled by a float 18 in a tank 16 which communicates with the lower end of the chamber 3 through a pipe 14. Air expelled from the compressed ice sludge in the chamber 3 escapes through the bore 8 and the air gap 15.
