Abstract

1517715 Separating oil from water BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [26 Nov 1974 23 April 1975] 51097/74 and 16815/75 Heading BID An apparatus for removing oil from water comprises oil-coalescing beds 2, 3, 4, each containing particles between permeable plates, and a settling zone 15 downstream of the beds. A filter 12 may be positioned upstream of the beds. The beds may comprise anthracite, charcoal, polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, vermiculite or sand. The filter 12 may comprise cellulose acetate fibre on a polypropylene core; filter 12 may comprise cotton, viscose, nylon, polyester, glass wool, resin impregnated paper, stainless steel wire mesh and P.T.F.E. coated wire mesh.
