Abstract
1517516 Friction clutches AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 29 Oct 1975 [27 Nov 1974] 51360/74 Heading F2C In a double friction clutch having driven plates 6 and 16, mounted on separate output shafts, with driven plate 6 being clamped between a flywheel 1 and a presser plate 5 to transmit drive and driven plate 16 being clamped between a plate 3 secured to the flywheel 1 and a presser plate 17 to transmit drive, the engaging forces for the presser plates are provided by springs 7 which react against presser plate 17 and act through levers 8 and rods 10 on presser plate 5. Disengagement of driven plate 6 is effected by pivoting levers 8 about fulcra 8d, and disengagement of the drive to driven plate 16 is effected by pivoting release levers 30 which are coupled by rods 29 to the presser plate 17. The levers 8 extend through, and are pivoted in, apertures 4c of the clutch cover 4. Additional engaging force for driven plate 16 is provided by a diaphragm spring 27 which acts between bent-out portions 28 of the cover 4 and the presser plate 17. In an alternative embodiment additional sets of coil springs are provided (Figs. 6 to 8, not shown). A spring may be provided to prevent a lever 30 and rod 29 from rattling (Fig. 6, not shown). Presser plate 5 is connected to flywheel 1 and presser plate 17 is connected to plate 3, by straps. The fulcrum for a lever 8 is provided by a pin 11a having an axially extending slot in which the edge 4b of the aperture 4c of the cover 4 is received. The invention may be applied to a single clutch by having the levers 8 act on the same pressure plate as that on which the springs react.
