Abstract
1517424 Optical safety barrier JAY ELECTRONIQUE 3 March 1976 [14 March 1975] 08483/76 HeadingGlA In an optical safety barrier radiation from a source S is split into two beams of different directions by the combination of a plano-convex lens and a prism, or, by two mirrors of different inclination with respect to one another Fig. 2 (not shown). Two catadiotropic retro-reflectors R 1 , R 2 are positioned to reflect back the beams, as shown, so that each is directed to a corresponding detector C 1 or C 2 . The invention is said to be an improvement over existing safety barriers since a planar reflecting surface will now be detected. The output of the detectors are fed to an AND gate, so that if both detectors are not illuminated an output can be produced which indicates the presence of an object in the safety barrier.
