Button-hole sewing-machines. - Buttonholes comprising a fixed number of stitches are made of different lengths by means of devices which act upon the feed-transmitting mechanism so as to vary that portion of the work-feeding movement imparted to the work clamp by the feedcam during the stitching operation. In the application of the invention of the machine described in Specification 3293/13, the work-clamp carrying-frame 2 is moved longitudinally from buttonhole-cutting to sewing position and during sewing by a lever 4 having a roll 18 engaging the camgroove 20 in the feed-cam. An arm 16 of the lever carries a roll 22 engaging one of a series of cam slots 24 in a disk 26, Fig. 3, which can be turned to engage any desired slot with the roll 22 and is locked by a clamp screw 38 and a pin 30. The cam-slots modify the effect of the feedcam on the lever 4 and thereby vary the feeding- movement imparted to the frame 2 during stitching, and may be so shaped as to keep constant either the total movement of the work or the movement of the work from cutting to stitching position.
