Abstract

1516476 Coagulating a resin latex KANEGAFUCHI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 1 June 1976 [2 June 1975] 22619/76 Heading C3L A latex of a resin is coagulated by dispersing the latex as a spray of liquid drops (e.g. via spray device 2) into an atmosphere 4 containing a coagulating gas and/or spray, supplied at 5, and recovering the spherical coagulated particles in a liquid medium 7 (aqueous or organic) held in the chamber 6. Optional process features include a liquid 10 acting as a seal between the coagulating atmosphere 4 and the recovery medium 7 and means 12 to wash the walls of the chamber. Further additives may be introduced via line 23 and a coagulating agent may also be present in 7, introduced via line 21. Typical examples refer to the coagulation of latexes of styrene/methacrylate graft copolymer on styrene/butadiene copolymer, a blend of styrene/methylmethacrylate grafted on polybutadiene together with a copolymer of alphamethyl styrene/methylmethacrylate/styrene/ acrylonitrile, or vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile or vinylidene chloride copolymers in atmospheres of HCl, or a spray of an aqueous solution of NaCl or CaCl2, with water as the recovery medium.
