Abstract

1516473 Joining sheet metal sections NORRBOTTENS JARNVERK AB 28 April 1976 [28 April 1975 9 June 1975] 17238/76 Heading F2M [Also in Division El] A sheet metal section 1 or 21 comprises a channel section having a web 4 or 24 and two flanges 3 or 23 which at their ends remote from the web have an outwardly bent lip 2 or 22 substantially narrower than the web, the web being provided with stiffenings 7, 8 or 25 and each of the flanges being provided with at least one longitudinal continuous stiffening 5. The lips preferably have upturned ends and may also have stiffenings 23. As shown, the stiffenings may be shoulders or ribs, the ribs being, e.g. of V- or U-section. Roofing (Fig. 9, not shown) is built up from a number of the sheet metal sections arranged side-by-side with their adjacent lips overlapping and covered by insulation (27). The overlapping ends are reinforced by connector plates such as 29 which are secured, together with the lips, to an underlying beam 26. The connector plates may be disposed beneath, instead of above, the sheet metal sections.
