Abstract

1512967 Producing relief-finished coatings NIPPON PAINT CO Ltd 23 May 1975 22707/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division F2] A surface is provided with a relief-finished coating by forming thereon a continuous or discontinuous layer of coating material whose surface has projections of differing heights, and flattening to a given level only those projections which extend above that level by using a roller having a hard uniform air-permeable surface comprising polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl acetal. The coating layer may constitute one or more undercoats, which are applied by spray or roller, and are provided with projections either by means of a reliefpatterned roller or by a special coating applicator. After flattening, the undercoating is dried and spray-coated with a top-coat. The specification lists suitable substrate surfaces and undercoating and top-coating materials.
