Abstract
1512778 Seals AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 25 Nov 1975 [4 Dec 1974] 52471/74 Heading F2B A disc brake actuator comprising a piston 10, a cylinder 11 and an annular sealing member 20 of flexible resilient material, e.g. ethylene propylene rubber, located in a groove in either the piston 10 or the cylinder 11, is characterized by a space 18 forming part of the groove and which accommodates movement of the sealing member 20 firstly due to expansion and secondly arising from movement of the piston 10 from the rest position in a direction opposite to that of actuator A, e.g. due to disc wobble, resilience of the sealing member 20 providing a force to restore the piston 10 to the rest position. In the embodiment, the groove and the space 18 are shaped as in Fig. 2 (not shown), to provide a restoring force after movement of the piston in either axial direction. The sealing member 20 is initially square in cross-section (20<SP>1</SP>).
