Abstract

1512128 Silencers; engine casings AUTOMOBILES M BERLIET 11 Aug 1976 [14 Aug 1975] 33388/76 Heading F1B [Also in Division B7] An arrangement for the sound insulation of vehicle engines, particularly bus engines, comprising an engine compartment 9 flanked by two side compartments 12, 13, the side compartment walls being internally clad with sound absorbing material but the engine compartment being internally free of such material and the side compartments acting as air entry and air exit chambers. The engine compartment is free of sound insulating material to avoid the absorption of inflammable liquids. Air is drawn into compartment 12 via opening 15 in the vehicle side 3 by a fan 18. Air passes over the radiator 17, through the engine compartment and out through an opening 21 or pipe (25), Fig. 1 (not shown), at the rear of compartment 13. The engine silencer may be situated in the compartment 13.
