Abstract
1509196 Flame ionization detector RESEARCH ENGS Ltd 30 April 1975 [21 May 1974] 22673/74 Heading G1N A flame ionization detector has a flame failure sensing thermocouple 24 producing an audible alarm signal from loudspeaker 22. Flame extinction causes the output of differential amplifier to change polarity whereby transistor 41 is switched off and oscillator 42 is switched on to energize the loudspeaker via voltage-frequency converter 21. Re-ignition of the flame provides a path through transistor switch 41 for the signal from electrode 12 which passes to amplifier 14 and is indicative of the concentration of hydrocarbon concentration in air sampled by the detector. This signal is applied through the converter to the loudspeaker to provide an audible signal of pitch variable with concentration of hydrocarbon, and is also applied to a meter 16 via a logarithmic amplifier.
