Abstract
1508343 Concrete - reinforcing rods L F AURELIO and H J TORRES 4 April 1975 13835/75 Heading E1K [Also in Division B3] A metal rod, Fig. 14 for reinforced concrete has staggered projections 31 for adhesion to the concrete, the projections having the same yield point as the material forming the core of the rod. The rod is made by the following steps. Strips 2, Fig. 1, are cut from metal sheet 1 by cutting discs 3. The strips 2 are wound on drums (6), Fig. 2 (not shown) and unwound passing through lubricating felt discs (17, 18) and through idle shaping rollers (9), (10), Fig. 2a (not shown) to round off the cut edges. The strip is then compacted by a pair of driven rollers (24, 25) Fig. 3 (not shown) to transform the strip into a rod 30 of elliptical cross - section, Fig. 8, which increases its yield point. The rod 30 is then turned by rollers (33-38), Fig. 4 (not shown) so that its major axis 29 becomes vertical. Rod 30 is then passed through driven stud shaping rollers (39, 40), Figs. 5, 5a, 5b (not shown), to form the finished rod 32, Fig. 14, by pressure along the major axis which forces metal away to increase the minor axis to form a rod of circular cross - section with projecting studs 31.
