Abstract

1502218 Joining panels to form cabinets PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 May 1976 [22 May 1975] 20683/76 Heading F2M Panels 1, e.g. of chipboard, covered on each face with a laminate 2 of synthetic resin, are joined to form rounded corners of a cabinet by forming an assembly of panels with the laminate on one face extending continuously from panel to panel to form webs 2a between adjacent panels, the adjacent edges of the panels being parallel and the edge surfaces of the panels being rounded as shown, and inserting a corner member 4 between each two adjacent panels, the corner member being cylindrical or partcylindrical, preferably tubular, and being split to form a gap 6, along the edges of which are formed integral flanges 5 which extend at rightangles to each other and contact the inner faces of the panels. The assembly is preferably secured by adhesive. Spacers (7, Fig. 4, not shown) may be formed on the flanges 5 to ensure that the panels are at right angles.
