Abstract
1501213 Pulsed operation of gas discharge lamps XEROX CORP 23 April 1975 [6 May 1974] 16835/75 Heading H2H [Also in Division G2] A sodium vapour gas discharge lamp 1 is operable from a D.C. source 15 in an intermittent mode for the purpose of photocopying a document 18. Closure of a switch 17 causes a capacitor 16 to be charged from the battery 15 to a voltage which may, of itself, be sufficient to effect a discharge through the lamp 1. In addition a circuit for triggering the lamp when the capacitor 16 is charged to a voltage below the breakdown value of the lamp 1 is provided comprising a winding 21 placed around the lamp 1 to which is applied a pulse from a source 20 to trigger the lamp when desired thus allowing the capacitor 16 to discharge through the lamp. A voltage source 22 is provided whereby the winding 21 may be used to heat the lamp 1 to cause vaporization of the sodium in the lamp.
