Abstract
1500414 Electric resistance heating XEROX CORP 14 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 15230/75 Heading H5H [Also in Division F4] An open boat crucible 10, particularly for vacuum deposition, has its bottom surface provided with a thin layer of gold 23 having a thickness of at least 600 Angstrom units, said layer of gold serving to reduce by reflection the infra-red radiation emitted through the back of the crucible. The main body 20 of the crucible, which is formed with a shallow cavity 11 for holding an evaporative charge, is made of tantalum, molybdenum, columbium or stainless steel, the cavity being coated with a layer of SiO. As shown, the bottom surface of the crucible is first coated with a layer 22 of potassium silicate and then overcoated with a layer 23 of gold applied by electro- or vacuum deposition. To assist adhesion of the gold, a thin chromium layer may be applied to the potassium silicate coating prior to the deposition of the gold, the maximum thickness of the chromium layer being 200 . The crucible has end plates 13 and 14 provided with slots 15 adapted to be connected to a source of electrical power for resistance heating and/or for bolting a plurality of crucibles together (see Fig. 2, not shown).
