Abstract

1500009 Surgical drapes L E EDWARDS 20 May 1975 [20 Nov 1974] 50175/74 Heading A5R A surgical drape for use during operations on the penis, prostate gland or bladder of human males comprises a sheet 1a of flexible material for covering in use at least part of the abdomen, the perineum, and at least part of the posterior of the male, the sheet having a hole 2 therein through which the penis can pass, a trough 15 of flexible sheet material secured to the sheet 1a for collecting liquid discharged through the urethra and a flexible drain pipe 20 leading from the trough for draining liquid therefrom to a discharge part. Preferably the trough 15 and drain - pipe 20 are formed in one piece and the trough has an extension 14 which is secured around the edges 16, 17, 18 to that side of the sheet 1a which, in use faces away from the patient. A filter disc 21 may be provided in the drainpipe or alternatively wall portions of the drain-pipe may be sealed together in spaced regions to form a filter. An electrode plate 7a is secured to the patient-contacting surface of sheet 1a by adhesive tape 13, and adhesive areas 22 for securing the drape to the patient are provided on the sheet 1a. A tubular projection 3 for insertion into the rectum may be provided.
