1499938 Mattresses &c R J P EVANS 30 July 1976 [29 Oct 1975] 44570/75 Heading A4M A cushion, mattress or like device for supporting the human body comprises a plurality of flexible walled cells 1 disposed side by side and connected by lines 2 to a cyclic valve 3 connected to an air pump P whereby the cells are connected cyclically to a source of compressed air, the cells 1 including a first group with a pressure exceeding atmospheric and a second cell of cells with a lesser pressure, the cells constituting the first group and the second cell or cells being changed cyclically, and the ratio of the number of cells of the first group to the number of the second cell or cells always exceeding unity e.g. 4:1. The second cell or cells may be selected either sequentially or non-sequentially along the row. The cells may have differing diameters.
