Abstract

1291015 Mattresses J K WHITNEY 24 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 16537/71 Heading A4M A mattress comprises first and second banks 12, 14 of inflatable cells respectively comprising a plurality of finger cells 12b, 14b extending from a common, header cell 12a, 14a, the finger cells 12b, 14b having the same effective diameter A which exceeds the spacing B between the centre lines of adjacent finger cells 12b, 14b of the two banks 12, 14. The banks 12, 14 are connected to a pressure system 20 which effects their alternate inflation and deflation. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the various cells are defined between upper and lower plastics sheets sealed together peripherally, at 22, and along an uninterupted serpentine line 24. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the two banks 42, 44 are formed as separate units with one unit 42 supported on the other unit 44.
