Abstract

1498313 Door handles D DIECKMANN 29 Jan 1976 [14 Nov 1975] 03596/76 Heading A4U [Also in Divisions E1-2 and F2] A door handle set comprises a door handle 2 having a portion 4 engaged by a spring 6 in the form of a plastics member mounted in a door plate 1 for resilient deformation by rotation of the handle. The spring may be of injection-moulded polyacetal resin and it has a flat 10 engaging a flat 5 on the portion 4. In operation the spring can be rotated through 90 degrees by rotation of the handle beyond its return limit position to a position in which the handle extends longitudinally of the door plate 1, for packing purposes, see Fig. 4 (not shown), or the spring can be similarly rotated through 180 degrees so that the handle projects to the opposite side of the door plate for oppositehand door operation. In a second embodiment, Figs. 5 to 8 (not shown), the flats 5 and 10 are replaced by a part of the spring having a portion engaged by a lock-operating square spindle (13), and a part (16) projecting upwardly from the body of the spring engages the sides of the door plate to limit rotational movement of the handle. To change the position of the door handle the spindle (13) is removed from engagement with the handle portion 4 until the handle 2 has been turned to the desired position.
