Abstract

1498275 U.V. radiation projector DENTSPLY INTERNATIONAL Inc 18 Feb 1975 6893/75 Heading F4R [Also in Division H2] An ultra-violet radiation projector comprises a radiation collecting rod 61, Fig. 3, and a gas discharge tube 51 having a first, straight section 56 coaxially aligned with the rod 61 and a second helical section 57 wound round the rod 61, the junction between the two sections 56, 57 having a window adjacent and transverse to the end 62 of the rod 61 for transmitting the ultra-violet radiation to the rod from where it is directed by a radiation piping rod 67 to be used in dentistry, for example, for hardening protective material for the teeth in situ. As shown, the cathode 58 is disposed in the straight end 56 of the xenon discharge tube 51, the other end 57 of the tube containing the anode 60 being helically disposed about the quartz rod 61. A filter 63 is disposed between the output end of the rod 61 and the quartz rod 67 which may also have a frusto-conical radiation distributing head, Fig. 1, the rod 67 being held in chuck jaws 69, 71 in the housing 22. A reflective aluminium coating may be provided on the side walls of the rod 67 and its distributing head. An operating circuit for the projector is disclosed, see Division H2.
