Abstract
1431554 Treating with ultra violet radiation AMALGAMATED DENTAL CO LTD 21 March 1973 [25 April 1972] 19209/72 Heading A5R [Also in Division F4] An ultraviolet irradiation apparatus comprises an ultraviolet light source 3, a lens 4 for focussing the light therefrom onto one end of an elongate' bundle of quartz fibres 10 and a filter 7 interposed between the source 3 and the fibres 10 to filter out radiation below 3000 Angstrom and substantially all of the visible light emitted from the source 3. One end of the quartz fibres 10 is surrounded by a plug 9 which fits into a cylindrical opening 8 in the tubular extension 2 of the housing 1, and the other end of the fibres 10, which may be about 1 metre in length, is fitted with a tubular handpiece 11. A flexible protective covering 12 encloses the intermediate portion of the fibres. The apparatus may be used to polymerise protective, repair or sealant material for teeth in situ.
