Abstract

1496813 Aerating liquids H MULLER 17 March 1975 [18 March 1974] 11097/75 Heading B1C Apparatus for the combined cooling, aeration and circulation of a liquid medium within a cylindrical fermentation vessel 1 comprises at least one heat exchanger 2 within the vessel, a rotatable liquid circulating device 5 located in the lowermost part of the vessel drive means 8 below the circulating device, frusto conical pipe means for channeling liquid medium to the circulating device 5, means 6 for supplying air to and distributing it within the circulating medium and means for withdrawing used gas from the top of the vessel. The air supply pipes 6 may terminate in venturi nozzles or filter elements and extend into the tops of the liquid channels in the heat exchanger which may be of plate, tube-nest or coil type. A mechanical froth inhibitor may be included at the top of the vessel 1 and the circulating device 5 is such that it draws in liquid axially and expels it circumferentially.
