Abstract

1496781 Circumferential-flow blowers BRITISH GAS CORP 15 April 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 01956/74 Heading F1C In a circumferential-flow blower of the kind comprising a toroidal chamber divided along a plane normal to its axis into a part bounded by a stator housing 2 having adjacent inlet and outlet ports 3, 4 with a stripper 5 between them and a port bounded by a rotor housing 6 containing impeller blades 7, the stripper comprises a block 13 whose cross-section corresponds to the crosssection of the hemispherical stator in which it is fixed and two vanes 14 projecting one from each end of the block so that they at least partly cover the inlet and outlet ports but are spaced therefrom, the radial width of each vane gradually diminishing from its connection with the block to its free tip. As shown, the tip may be notched at 17, the axial thickness of the vane may gradually diminish from its connection with the block to the tip, and the vane curves away slightly from the plane of the edges of the blades 7. The vanes reduce the noise generated at blade-passing grequency.
