Abstract
1440551 Centrifugal pumps KOBE Inc 21 Jan 1974 [21 March 1973] 02821/74 Heading F1C In a pump of the type in which liquid introduced from an inlet 30 into a chamber 39 within a rotary casing 24 is removed from the periphery of the chamber by a stationary pilot tube 40 and discharged via a central duct 46 to an outlet 48, the liquid enters the chamber via an annular passage 34 surrounding the duct 46 and generally radial slots 38 formed in one end-wall 36 of the rotary casing, the inner surface 50 of the end-wall being substantially flat and perpendicular to the pump axis. Each slot 38, which is substantially uniform in cross-sectional area throughout its length, has one side open throughout its length to the chamber 39, whereby the chamber is continuously purged of gas, and is disposed at an angle to the radial direction to provide a scooping effect at its inner end. The inner ends of the slots 38 almost join, so that their combined cross-sectional area is approximately equal to the peripheral area of the annular passage 34 opposite the slots.
