Abstract

1496400 Lauroyl polylactic acid LION FAT & OIL CO Ltd 19 May 1975 [21 May 1974 (2)] 5 Dec 1974] 21166/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Aqueous lactic acid, lauric acid and phosphoric acid are stirred together under nitrogen and water is removed. After further stirring at reduced pressure, lauroyl poly-lactic acid of formula wherein n ranged from 1 to 6, is obtained. Lauroyl poly-glycolic acid may be prepared in a similar manner. one of the following formulµ where R 1 -R 3 are = H or hydrocarbyl radicals which are C 1-18 aliphatic, C 6-10 aromatic, C 7-10 araliphatic or C 5-7 cycloaliphatic, not more that one of R 1 -R 3 being -H, and R 4 is R 1 or -N(R 2 )(R 3 ); (b) where R 1 and R 2 are as above and n is 2-4; (c) where R 2 and R 3 are -H or C 1-4 alkyl; or (e) where m and n are each 2-4. In examples: (1) dibutyltin dilaurate is reacted with 2,3-dimethyl - 3,4,5,6 - tetrahydropyrimidine; (5) dibutyltin dilaurate with N-methyl-imidazole; and (7) 2,3 - dimethyl - 3,4,5,6 - tetrahydropyrimidine with each of tin(II) octoate, Hg(II) acetate, Zn-acetate, Zn-acetylacetonate, Znoleate, Mg(II) acetylacetonate, Cu(II) acetylacetonate and Fe(II) acetylacetonate. Other metal compound and amidine reactants are specified. The complexes are useful as catalysts in polyurethane preparation.
