Abstract

149,536,. Morgan, J., and Calvert, A. V. Sept. 10, 1919. Reciprocating or oscillating sieves.-A rotary driving-shaft 10 is connected directly and through a countershaft 15 to gears 17, 18, so as to drive spindles 19, 20 in opposite directions. This gearing is supported in a frame 23 adapted to pivot about the shaft 10, so as to bring oppositely-rotating friction gears 21, 22 alternatively into engagement with a member 11 to be reciprocated for sifting or screening. Operation is effected by way of a lever 25 pivoted at 26 adjacent to the frame 23 and carrying weights 27, 28 and cam surfaces 29, 30. Cam levers 33, 34 are connected by links 37, 38 to a control lever 39. Each reversal of the member 11 may be effected from a lever 39 through the levers 33, 34, 25 and frame 23. Stops 47, 48 upon the member 11 adapted to strike the levers 33, 34, may render the action automatic after having been started by the lever 39. The gears 21, 22 may be replaced by toothed gears adapted to mesh with a rack on the member 11.
