Abstract

1494971 Epoxy resin compositions DOW CHEMICAL CO 16 Feb 1976 5994/76 Heading C3B A composition comprises (a) an epoxy resin and (b) as a catalyst, for the reaction of the epoxy resin with compounds containing phenolic, carboxylic acid or carboxylic anhydride groups, a phosphorus compound in which each R is a C 1-20 hydrocarbon radical and R<SP>1</SP> represents in which R<SP>1</SP> is H or a C 1-20 hydrocarbyl radical; R<SP>2</SP> is H or C 1-20 alkyl; R<SP>3</SP> is H, C 1-20 alkyl, carboxyl or C 1-20 alkoxy carbonyl; n is 0-20; and A<SP>(-)</SP> represents an anion. Examples relate to the use of the catalyst for (a) curing epoxy resins with polycarboxylic acids or anhydrides; (b) reaction of epoxy resins with (meth)acrylic acid; (c) reaction of epoxy resins with dihydric phenols to form higher M.W. linear epoxy resins. These reactions form the subject matter of Specification 1,494,972.
