Abstract
1494932 Abrasive tools DIAGRIT ELECTROMETALLICS Ltd 26 May 1976 [7 June 1975] 24557/75 Heading B3D A tool for forming counterbores or recesses in fibreglass, ceramic, glass, stone and other materials comprises a rotatable tool spindle 10, the head 12 of the spindle being arranged for location in the bore to be counterbored, and a cutter bar 16 extending transversely to the axis of the spindle and having over at least a portion of its surface which is beyond the outer surface of the spindle a covering 19 of abrasive so that in use as the spindle rotates the cutter cuts the counterbore. The spindle is of steel and the head end has a frusto-conical shape 13 and a diameter to fit the hole to be counterbored. A cross bore 14 is reamed to receive the cutter bar 16 which is releasably retained by a screw 20 threaded in the spindle to engage a recess 21 in a central portion 17 of the cutter bar. The central portion is slightly larger in diameter than the end portions 18 which are generally cylindrical and formed with flats 22. The flats, part of the cylindrical surfaces of the end portions, and at least parts of the free ends of the end portions, are coated with diamond abrasive.
