520,440. Tool-holders. RIKOF, O. N. Oct. 20, 1938, No. 30404. Class 83 (iii)] In a tool - holder for boring, turning &c. tools of the kind comprising a' shank of circular cross section with a transverse opening at one end for one or more tools and packing pieces and a longitudinal bore, screw threaded at one end to receive a screw which forces a clamping rod within the bore against the packing pieces, the latter have recesses to accommodate the tools and can be displaced about the axis of the transverse opening to adjust the angle of the tools. In one form the cutter 1 Fig. 1; is gripped in divided packing pieces 2 in the transverse slot 3 by a plunger 6 actuated by a screw 7. Rotation of the plunger is prevented by a flat 9 thereon engaging a key 10. In a modification two cutters are located side by side in the packing pieces and have their cutting ends on opposite sides of the bar 4. In another form the slot 3 is star-shaped in section so that it may accommodate packing pieces of either triangular or square section and the end of the plunger has a V-notch therein. In a further modification the cutter 1 Fig. 1, of triangular section is gripped by packing pieces 2, a plunger 6 and a screw 7, and the bar 4 is held in a transverse hole in a support 15 by means of a tapered. split collet 12 and nut 14.
