Abstract

1492915 Bed for turning an occupant BETSTONE INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 April 1976 [1 May 1975] 16482/76 Heading A4J A mattress frame for turning an occupant on to his side comprises a central section 42 pivotally connected to the bed frame, a pair of outer sections 44, 46 pivotally connected to the central section such that on tilting of the central section the outer section adjacent the raised side of the central section is tilted with the central section and the other outer section is pivoted relative to the outer section and a lever 18 secured to the central section and moveable by an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic drive to effect tilting of the central section. The drive may be a rotatable screw 26 which engages a threaded nut (23) Figs. 4 and 4A (not shown) pivotally mounted between a pair of spaced arms 22 secured to the lever. Tilting of the mattress frame may be limited by contact of a metal plate 33 on the lever with one of a pair of switches 32 mounted on a bar 31 parallel to the screw 26 and connected to an electric motor which rotates the screw through a worm and wheel drive. The screw and nut may be replaced by a hydraulic or pneumatic piston and cylinder unit (80, 82) Fig. 5 (not shown). The mattress frame may be tilted automatically at pre-selected time intervals.
