Abstract
1490420 Hoods for furnaces HAWLEY MFG CORP 5 Nov 1975 45904/75 Heading F4X A tiltable furnace 10 includes an upwardly open mouth 14 which is normally closed by a lid 22 which can be raised and swung away from the mouth by a vertically extending post 28 and a support beam 30. A hood 12 is mounted on the furnace to enclose the mouth 14. The hood comprises a front wall 40, side walls 42, 44 and back wall segments 46a-46d, the segments 46a-466 and 46c-46d being joined together by vertical hinges 50, 54; a floor 60; and ceiling panels 68, 70, 72, 74, 76. The ceiling panels 70, 72 are attached to and movable with the panels 46c, 46b. The ceiling panels define a port 80 which is directly above the mouth 16 of the furnace and is closable by a cover 136. The cover is mounted on an upper post portion 122 by radially outwardly extending support arms 126, 128, 130, such that the cover 136 is able to move up and down with the lid 22 when the post 28 is raised and lowered. The side wall 44 includes an opening closed by a door 140 hinged to the side wall, whereby the lid 22 is able to pass through the hood away from the mouth during charging and uncharging operations.
