Abstract
1489985 Chain-shift change-speed gear R HURET and J HURET 18 Feb 1975 [18 Feb 1974] 6841/75 Heading F2D A chain-shift change-speed gear for a bicycle has a mounting plate assembly 11a, 11b, for guide and tension sprockets 7, 8, carried, for chain tensioning movement in planes parallel to that of the cycle road-wheel, on a first support parallelogram linkage 3, lying in a plane perpendicular to the axis 2 of the road-wheel spindle and having one side formed by a rigid connecting member 4 forming a part of controllable means for producing ratio-selecting movement in directions transverse to the plane of the road-wheel. In one embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown, the transverse movement is provided by a simple guided slide-bolt (23), whilst in Figs. 1 and 3, shown, a second parallelogram linkage 1 in a plane parallel to that of the axis 2 of the wheel spindle, carries the first support parallelogram linkage 3. One U-shaped arm la of the second parallelogram linkage 1 is secured to the cycle frame, whilst its opposite arm 4, also U-shaped, and pivoting on pins 5 on side arms 1b, 1c, forms the rigid connecting body which constitutes also one arm of the first support parallelogram linkage 3, for which purpose it has ears 4b, 4c, pivoted at 4i on side arms 3a, 3c, pivoted to the opposite arm 3b, one pivot 3d of which forms the spindle bolt 9 of the chain guide sprocket 7 and also serves to attach the mounting plate assembly 11 to the support linkage 3. Arms 12a, 12b of a torsion coil spring 12 react on lugs 3g on the arm 3b and lie on the plate 11c, to bias the assembly about the spindle 9 in the chain tensioning direction 13. Stops 3f, 3h limit the pivotal movement. In Figs. 4 and 5, not shown, the connecting body 4 of Fig. 1 is secured to a square-sectioned pin (23) slidable transversely of the road-wheel in a guide cylinder (21) fixed to the cycle frame (at 22) and shifted transversely by a spring- opposed Bowden cable (29) acting through a lever (26).
