Abstract

1489282 Colour television tubes RCA CORPORATION 25 March 1975 [28 March 1974] 12392/75 Heading H1D A method of coating a CRT faceplate comprises applying a phosphor slurry at less than 22‹ C. to the face plate at more than 35‹ C., recovering and recycling excess slurry and removing heat added to the excess to maintain the temperature of the applied slurry constant. The method results in thicker denser coatings and allows less binder and filler to be used. For red, blue and green phosphor slurries used with colour CRT's the weight ratio of PVA to phosphor 0À09 to 0À12 and of filler to PVA 0À05. Slurry at 17-22‹ C. is deposited on a faceplate at 46Œ2‹ C. at the centre and 42Œ2‹ C. at its edges. The faceplate is tilted and rotated to spread the slurry. After coating the faceplate is spun rapidly to sling off excess slurry which is returned to a storage container. Excess heat is removed by cooling the slurry, in the container or immediately before dispensing.
