Abstract
1489187 Vehicle headlamps CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 13 Dec 1974 [5 Feb 1974] 05307/74 Heading F4R A vehicle headlamp assembly is finely and coarsely adjustable about a horizontal axis by a rod 13 which has a universal connection to the headlamp such that it can rotate about its longitudinal axis, the rod 13 having a screwthreaded portion which engages in a nut 14 mounted in a housing 15 such that it is linearly movable in the direction of the length of the rod between a number of adjustment positions defined by a detent arrangement between the nut 14 and housing 15, the fine adjustment being effected by rotating the rod 13 and the coarse adjustment, e.g. to allow for different load conditions, by pushing or pulling the rod between the adjustment positions defined by the detent. As shown, the rod 13 has a ball 12 at one end which engages in a socket 11 on the lamp and the housing 15 is formed of a pair of plastics blocks 16 with a passageway therethrough for the rod. Each of the blocks has a U-shaped cut-out, Fig. 3 (not shown), to define resilient tongues 20 whose faces are engaged by respective flats of the plastics nut 14, each flat having a ridge 17 extending across it, which ridges are received in respective grooves 18, 19 in the tongues 20 to define the different positions of adjustment of the nut. The housing 15 is mounted on a U-shaped bracket 21 which also carries a guide bush 24 to steady the rod. The rod 13 may be operated remotely by a mechanism operable from within the vehicle.
