Abstract

1486013 Securing pins in barrel hinges CROMPTON NETTLEFOLD STENMAN Ltd 23 July 1975 [27 July 1974] 33295/74 Heading E2F Two parts 1, 5 of a barrel hinge are interconnected by means of an expansible ring 9 located on a pin 3 of the part 1 which locates in a bore 4 of the part 2; the ring expanding into an enlarged bore portion 12 in the assembled position of the hinge so as to prevent removal of the pin by force applied to the pin alone-Fig. 3. The parts and the ring can be made of metal or plastics and tapered portions are provided at the entrance to bore 4 and on the ring to cause the ring to contract as it enters the bore- Fig. 2. A tool 16 having a bore 17 to receive the end of the pin and a tapered portion 17a can be applied as shown in Fig. 4 to contract the ring to allow removal of the pin.
