Abstract

1482630 Automatic circuit breakers DORMAN SMITH SWITCHGEAR Ltd 5 Sept 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 46294/73 Heading H1N In an electric circuit breaker having a tripping mechanism operated on overload by deflection of a bimetal strip 21, the bimetal strip is supported on a mounting assembly together with a heating element, which may be a conductor 31 carrying all or part of the current through the circuit breaker or the secondary 36 of a current transformer, which mounting assembly includes a pair of brackets 29, 30, aligned to provide a planar support to which the bimetal strip is secured the bimetal strip being fastened to both brackets with the heating element sandwiched between the bimetal strip and the two brackets. The brackets 29, 30 are substantially L-shaped and have uprights parallel to one another and lateral limbs providing the planar support. The secondary of the current transformer may be a single turn 36 around a magnetic material core through which passes a conductor 39 carrying the current through the circuit breaker and forming the transformer primary. The transformer core comprises a U-piece 40 and a bridging piece 37 of stainless steel, slots 45, 46 being provided in the core for mutual adjustment. Deflection of the bimetal strip deflects a trip bar 10 which links all poles of the circuit breaker.
